What happened (2026-08-22 → 2026-08-27)

Scoped as the next exploration: one-room Godot 4 prototype + Jersey (Socratic companion) so Beads would have movement, interactions, dialogue, and a win state to track.

Tried in Cursor + Godot 4.7 after a private repo scaffold (scenes/room.tscn, movable square). Stopped quickly. Honest read:

  • The game felt thin — not worth continuing as a product or a pastime.
  • Beads was unnecessary on a slice that small. The tracker had nothing real to earn its keep.

Still true: Darcy wants to learn Beads. The next vehicle is TBD — not this game, not a forced tracker on a lame prototype.

Original brief (historical)

Player wakes with amnesia in a strange reality, explores freely, finds natural puzzles, earns Jersey (steampunk Jersey-style Yoda) that only asks questions.

Milestone 1 (never finished): one room, keyboard + one interact, three-object chain, Jersey after third object or a short timer, win = door / escape / wake up.

Non-goals that still apply if anyone reopens this: no branching, no 3D, no dual-screen, no combat, no time pressure.

Feel (intent): interactive movie; light pointer to parked Seth Dunlap craft. Seth stays parked.

Counterpoint / learning

Risk What we learned
Beads vs game Beads needs a project that already has real state. A stub room does not.
Vehicle first Do not invent a game so that Beads has something to track.
Scope Interactive-movie taste was never the blocker; interest in the toy was.

Next

  • This page: parked. Do not treat Where Am I? as current build attention.
  • Beads: still a learning goal. Pick a vehicle that already has enough moving parts (or wait until one does).
  • Repo: leave dmoniker/where-am-i as a private stub unless Darcy deletes it.
